Sarah McGuire

Barrister & Solicitor

Sarah is an associate lawyer who specializes in family law. She has experience acting for clients in all aspects of family law, including, but not limited to, divorce and separation, child and spousal support and division of property.

Prior to joining Bruyer and Mackay LLP, Sarah articled and worked as an associate with a large national firm, where she maintained a broad civil litigation practice. As such, Sarah also has experience in commercial litigation, professional negligence matters, employment disputes and estate litigation, and has knowledge regarding pensions, taxes, estate planning and corporate structures. She has appeared before various levels of court and has assisted with proceedings before various regulatory bodies.

Sarah understands that it can be challenging to determine who can be trusted to handle an ordeal as life-changing as a divorce or child-custody dispute. As a result, she is a committed advocate who is focused on doing what is best for her client based on their unique and individual needs. Sarah is empathetic and listens to each client's story. She believes in clear, straightforward, and honest communication and legal advice so that clients can make informed decisions regarding their options.

Sarah has resolved disputes through litigation as well as alternative dispute resolution. She aims to guide clients towards early resolution by settlement, mediation or negotiation where possible, but is a strategic and effective litigator when court proceedings are required.

Sarah attended law school at the University of Manitoba and was recognized each year for her academic achievements. During the summer of her first year in law school, she worked at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in the Hague, Netherlands. She clerked with the Manitoba Court of Appeal in her third year. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Sarah worked internationally in China, the Middle East, and the Netherlands.

Sarah is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Canadian Bar Association.
