She understands the emotional, mental, and financial weight of family law issues. Alex strives to help clients move forward and meet their family’s needs in the least adversarial way possible. She approaches her work with compassion, creativity, and care. Alex was born in Timisoara, Romania, and grew up in Calgary. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy from the University of Calgary in 2022, graduating at the top of her class. Alex received several academic honours, including the Faculty of Arts Silver Medal and the award for Best Thesis in the Department of Philosophy. She obtained her Juris Doctor, with distinction, from the University of Alberta in 2025. Alex tailored her legal education to prepare for a fulfilling career in family law. In 2024, she competed in the National Family Law Negotiation Moot where her team won the award for best written materials. She took every opportunity to deepen her family law, negotiation, and advocacy skills, receiving the highest mark in her Advanced Family Law course. One of Alex’s passions is exemplified in her dedication to helping low-income individuals navigate the legal system. She worked at Student Legal Services (SLS) for three years, first as a volunteer, then as a dayleader, and finally as coordinator of the Legal Education and Reform Project. She supported survivors of family violence by leading a phone outreach program with the Today Centre. She also completed a year-long work placement in family law at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. In all of these endeavours, Alex presented complicated legal information to the marginalized public in a manner that was trauma-informed, comprehensive, and easy to understand. Alex is an active community member. She has served on the Helping Families Handle Cancer Board of Directors for over six years and completed her second term as Board Chair in 2025. She received a Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award in 2022, an Alberta Blue Cross Community Wellbeing Award, and several leadership awards from her law school, including the Bryan & Company Pursuit of Excellence Award and Margaret-Ellen Bonar scholarship. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and volunteers at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. After a career in education as a teacher, Abbey chose to return to school to pursue a second career in law. Abbey utilizes her experience in education to effectively inform her practice in family law as that experience afforded her a deep understanding of family systems. Abbey was born and raised in the Edmonton area. She completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta and her Juris Doctor at the University of Saskatchewan. During law school, Abbey worked with the Canadian National Negotiation Competition (CNNC) as a student coordinator. She enjoyed working with the CNNC so much that she now sits on their board of directors. Abbey also did an intensive practicum during law school focused on child protection. Abbey returned home to Edmonton with her husband and two boys to start her career in law after working as a summer student with Bruyer & Mackay in 2024, and then returned Bruyer & Mackay to complete her articles and be called to the Bar.
